Dynamic systemsFeedback control
Explore project

The CatBot project centered on stabilizing an inverted pendulum. Evaluation over 100 trials provided a concrete measure of performance: 91 successful trials.

Focus: Using repeated evaluation to assess a controller beyond a single successful run.

Explore project

Used a roving impact hammer, shaker, and stroboscope. Identified natural frequencies near 24.01, 153.94, 427.37, 837.91, and 1379.34 Hz, with measured damping below 1%.

Focus: Relating experimental measurements to structural dynamics.

Methods & report

My work: Modeled a two-spool, high-bypass turbofan; compared design-point outputs with hand calculations; varied compressor pressure ratio and turbine inlet temperature on an 11 × 11 grid.

Extended the study to off-design operating lines and surge margin across different altitudes. These are model-based coursework results, without experimental engine validation.

My contribution

My contribution: Mass-properties analysis and product development, including hands-on work to build and finish the aircraft. I took physical measurements to assess balance and identify suitable center-of-gravity (CG) locations.

Team outcome: A fabricated, flying UAV with a documented geometry and component weight breakdown.

How the concept worked

The device combined separators, mesh, and magnets with a water-based flotation stage intended to bring buoyant recyclable material to the surface.

Design focus: Using physical separation methods and manual operation to address waste sorting without an electrical power supply.

02 / ABOUT

An engineer’s curiosity.
A builder’s mindset.

I’m Casey, a first-generation college graduate with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

My work has taken me from CAD and hands-on fabrication to flight controls and vibration testing. Today, I’m a Noise & Vibration Engineer at International Motors while pursuing a Master of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Illinois Chicago.

I’m interested in how data and intelligent systems can help us understand—and improve—the physical world.

Family, heritage, and purpose

I’m proud of my Mexican heritage and to be a first-generation college graduate. My parents and sister are my role models. They taught me the value of hard work, sacrifice, and staying close to family—values I carry into my education and engineering work. Making them proud is one of my strongest motivations.

Outside engineering

I stay active through boxing, weightlifting, basketball, and soccer. Swimming and running get me outdoors, and reading gives me another way to keep learning.
